Are people moving from blogs to twitter

Saturday : 06 Feb '10 - 11:34 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

I have an interesting though or observation if you like. These are some of the blogs on technology I like to follow and almost every day I check them to see if there is new content:

Over the last couple of months however, it seems that there are less and less updates... Ok, so the server from Jeff Atwood crashed and Scott Hanselman got a lot to do as manager at microsoft. But if you look at their Tweets (Jeff, Scott) they seem to be very very active there.

Is this the new procrastination? Going from blogging to twittering?

Diving at Echinger Weiher

Wednesday : 06 Jan '10 - 11:00 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

On the 5th of January Klaus, Raimund and I went to the Echinger Weiher for our first dive this year. The outside temperature was about -6 degrees Celsius, which was also the reason we did not go to the Steinbergersee due to the risk of ice on the lake.
We had a very nice dive, although after 50 minutes the hands started to get really cold :-)

Details of the dive

One very interesting thing we discovered were, within the green vegitation, some parts where a kind of brown fungus was growing with a white nebula above it. Some kind of seeds or so, it really looked like something from a deep space nine movie :)

Setting up a new PC for Manu's dad

Saturday : 02 Jan '10 - 16:16 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

The father of Manu has his 60th birthday tomorrow and her mother is giving him a new pc for his birthday. As you can guess I'm the one who had to find, configure and setup the machine :-)

So far he has been working on a very old PC with Windows 98 (!!). That meant that every time he had some problems that I said I will fix in a minute I had to spend several hours finding out how this stuff was supposed to work on Windows 98 again... that was really several centuries ago for me.

So now the big step will be to switch to Windows 7. The new PC has everything he needs and we will give it together with a 22" monitor compared to the old 17" CRT, which is a big advantage (also for Manu, Claudia and me ;-)....

When looking back at the configuration the biggest problem was getting the same old Pinball Pro that he likes so much.. but I've also managed to get that working, so tonight at the party he will be quite suprised when he gets a book on Windows 7 and a paper PC ;-)

Rock Solid HTML Emails

Wednesday : 30 Dec '09 - 10:47 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

Just found an interesting article on what you have to consider when creating HTML emails.

http://24ways.org/2009/rock-solid-html-emails

As we have several emails that we send from our online solution I already know of the quirks it gets you, now I forwarded this article to my colleagues in the hope they will get the email templates a bit better too :-)

Weiße Schokoladenmousse mit marinierten Erdbeeren

Tuesday : 29 Dec '09 - 09:11 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

400 gr weiße Schokolade
400 gr Schmand
1 Vanielleschote
600 g Schlagsahne
6 Blatt Gelantien

150 gr frische Erdbeeren
1 EL Zironensaft
1 TL Puderzucker

Weather is great

Sunday : 20 Dec '09 - 12:27 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

Just look at this, the weather here in Fürth is definitely better than in the Netherlands, where they still have lot of snow showers.
What does bother me is that we'll have a warm day on Tuesday, thus all the nice snow will be melted away before Christmas... like always!

Trip to Atlanta

Sunday : 29 Nov '09 - 10:28 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

I'm currently sitting at the airport in Nürnberg waiting for my flight to go via Amsterdam to Atlanta, as we're having another workshop with our collegues within the USA. It will be interesting, as we are only two weeks away from our first testing cycle and we still have a lot to prepare and align, so I expect it to be a busy week.

For the rest of our application all is going very well, we have managed to reach a level where we have a lot of orders each day (nope, cannot tell you how many on this blog) and are still rollout out new regions, so our goals are still on track.
You can check it out, I am quite proud of it ;-) :

I must say, it is quite a cool feeling that several thousands of people are using the software we build every day and use it to order equipment.

New playground for me

Tuesday : 17 Nov '09 - 10:34 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

Last week we got our new television, a nice big LCD flatscreen 42PFL8404. I have also adjusted my old PC to be a media PC and am quite happy with how windows 7 media center works.

And then this weekend we used the same PC and big screen TV to setup a video conference with my parents in the Netherlands, and that was really great. The quality was very good and as it is in our living room it is not so strange as when we have to go up to the desktop computer. So for this is was a good idea to buy the Microsoft HD Webcam as I was in the united states...

Some photos will follow.

Diving at the Walchensee

Saturday : 03 Oct '09 - 19:58 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

This weekend I'm in the south of Bavaria for some diving at the Walchensee. This is a really beautiful lake about 800 meters above sea level.

This morning we (Klaus, Cordula and I) took a small biking boat, loaded all our gear onto it and went towards theUnterwasserberg / Desselwand, which is a place in the middle of the Walchensee where a kind of mountain arises. There we went down towards the top of the mountain, which lies around 15 meter. There a drop begins that goes down to the bottom of the lake, this means you have about 190 meters of nothing under you (click here for the underwater map)

The wall was beautiful and very spectacular. On the diving profile shown below we went up with the wall towards the top again, where a kind of dreadlocks are hanging.

Here our small boat:

And enjoying our lunch:

This was really a great dive!!!

update:

On Sunday we went to the Galerie, one of the best known places at the Walchensee. We got up early to ensure we could park the car and got ready for the first dive.
We went down to around 40 meter where Saiblingen are currently laying. Many fish and visibility of over 30 meters!

The second dive was also here, same stuff and amazing visibility.

Back in the office

Tuesday : 29 Sep '09 - 12:18 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

Since yesterday I'm back in the office after 4 weeks off, which was really good to get the batteries charged again.

Since we have done several GoLives with the team in the time I was on vacation I am sure they are now capable of handling a lot of open issues themselves, thus this gives me time to get installed in the new office (we moved) and sort out some of the stuff that was waiting during the last couple of hectic months.

Also, it gives me time to find some of the true marbles of the internet ;-)

Check this out!

Rome

Tuesday : 01 Sep '09 - 13:59 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

We arrived in Rome yesterday after driving the 1100 km in two days. Out camping spot it north of Rome and really great, although we're only a few trainstations from Rome it is quiet and green.

First impressions of Rome: Wow, lots of old fallen down buildings and way too hot ;-)

On Tuesday we visited the Coloseum, the Palantium, the Forum Romanum and the spanish stairs. We also discovered that if you wonder around in the lovely little streets you find cool places to eat almost everywhere. Then on Wednesday we went to the Vatican where we had a look at St. Peters Dome. This is really an amazing structure and we were overwhelmed with the amount of stuff to see there (we took an audio guide that gave just too much information). After that we saw the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountains and had a great lunch.

Vacation

Saturday : 29 Aug '09 - 22:05 | damen default No comments yet | Wikipedia

We just finished packing the small Toyota full of our stuff for a good 3.5 weeks of vacation in Italy. It is interesting how much stuff you can take with you when you're camping and want to be prepared for some good evenings cooking in front of the tent ;-) We're planning to drive to Rome in two days, arriving in on Monday evening atCamping Seven Hills which is about 20 km outside of Rome.
From there we will have three days to visit the city, not too much but OK to get an impression of the city. Then on Friday we will take the ferry from Civitavecchia to Olbia on Sardinia. Because we will arrive in the evening, when it will be dark already, we will stay one night in Olbia and then drive on south to the camping Portos Sosalinos where we will stay one week and move on to another not yet defined camping site or perhaps we will stay there longer, still unknown.

And this is why we're going there:

Sardinia beaches

Sardinia Beaches

Sardinia Grotto

Then on the 19th of September we will take the Ferry to Livorno and drive on to Florence where we will stay 3 nights (great tip, we used the lonely planet website to find an accommodation. Somehow they are all expensive and all have only shared bathrooms... next year it is Asia again ;-).

So perhaps updates will follow, but do not count on it.
